In a secret heart, shut away from the wind and sun, beats a fearful tattoo.

Come wind, come sun! Wash away the sound of this drumming.

Lord, my heart is a frightened rabbit. Soothe me, that I may walk out from here, into wind and sun, and carry the good news.

Be still my heart; all is well.

Have I chosen what is better, that can never be taken away? Am I prepared for all the grace that will rain down?

Hoping is not the same as deciding. Let me, Lord, decide to be ready.

You blasted a cleft into this blank wall in a box canyon, into which I now crawl to hide. A secret place, my protection.

I may later walk in exposed places. You will send a champion, my protection.

I may, finally, fall into a pit out of which I must pull myself hand over hand. Strong grip and perseverance, my protection.

Even imperiled, you deliver grace in so many guises, Lord. In the moment I cannot recognize the form of my rescue.

If I lack sight, then grant me willingness to be saved.
