Hidden Miracles

Even now, coming our way.

I tucked a small seed into a cup of soil, and over some weeks simply watered it. I trusted that it would become a small green shoot soon enough.

Below the soil, miracles were occurring.

❖

What might now be happening, that I cannot see nor imagine?

Consider:

What is happening, that I might not even suspect, that will delight me?

Unexpected Delight

Are there not miracles all around?

A coin on the ground.

A flower in the crack of a wall.

An unexpected smile.

What have you hidden for me to find and take delight in today, Lord?

❖

What if I were to expect such things throughout the day? This is a day that was made. It has not simply arisen by chance.

Let me take delight in all the parts of this day, Lord.

Consider:

Can I look for and expect delight and surprise?

On the Road with Myself

My constant companion.

I slept in a shelter along the path to another, distant village. I awaken to unfamiliar surroundings. Being new, my reactions are new.

Yet still it is me on this bunk. Still it is me looking out a new, small window.

❖

Over days upon days I have come to know myself and my ways; you have taught me to look honestly at my own will. The one whom I came to know at home is here now. I brought my whole basket of trials and joys with me.

Still it is me praying to you, Lord.

Let me follow your will, even along the way to new lands.

Time

Long and short.

When I am waiting, each moment drags. When I am impeded, the same.

Engaged and occupied — time flies and hours pass without thought.

❖

The difference between late and early when meeting my fellows is the length of the same moment that I now inhabit.

Let me appreciate each moment for what it is, Lord.
