Thank You

Gratitude, an action.

Is it enough for me to say Thank You?

It needs no enhancement nor gilding, yet does it obligate me further? How do I show gratitude? For what do I show it?

Let me live a grateful day, Lord.

Consider:

Can I be more grateful?

The Palace

Or a hut?

What am I building?

A palace? A hut? A fortress?

The same structure can be all of these things.

Lord, let this pile of sticks and rock become what you would have it be. Let me see it rightly, and live as your child.

Consider:

Can I see all the possibilities in this place?

Broken

Each episode an opportunity.

I awaken to a broken vase.

Yesterday’s error is today’s opportunity. Will I take it?

Will today be tomorrow’s regret?

I can only make progress. I have not arrived.

Let me move carefully and with compassion today, Lord.

Consider:

Can I learn from yesterday?

Geese

Pointing the way.

Frozen grass on the meadow.

Creek running thin beneath a skin of ice.

Steps crack.

Break, mend, move again.

Geese overhead, calling across the cold. They are intent on a destination I do not know.

Let me trust my steps, Lord. Let the geese point me toward what is new.

Consider:

Can I trust your guidance, Lord?
