Duties

Of all kinds.

A fence must be built; the needed wood will be found nearby. A garment must be mended; the thread on its spool will be enough.

A long journey must be made — will I have the strength, Lord? These tasks you set for me, do they always come with the resources needed?

It has ever been so, it will ever be so.

Lord, let me not shrink from the day, but walk forward knowing you will supply all I need.

Consider:

Can I accept this day’s duties?

Your Instrument

In all ways.

If I am your instrument in one setting, am I your tool in all?

Or in some other circumstances, do others work on me?

Let me accept what you plan for me, Lord.

Can I seek and do your will?

The Great Journey

Of a great distance.

I tried to head towards a distant town. Setting out walking, the way was at first obvious. Broad and flat.

Turning after turning, I chose what seemed the right way. I began to encounter dead ends and more than once had to backtrack.

I have reached a village. It is indeed far from my home. Is it the town I sought? I do lot believe I can even know, for the journey was so long my destination may have changed character between setting out and arrival.

Or this is a different town than I had meant.

Whom shall I meet here, and what shall I do? I had an errand in mind, will it be done?

Can I accept that this is where I have been brought?

Let me accept the dawns that this unfamiliar place will bring me, Lord.

Storms

Yet we are protected.

The storm came through last night; we clung to one another in the cellar against the winds.

Now I fear the air, for a never know when it might become calamity.

Yet somehow, Lord, you protected us. Every survival a lesson in strength, that I may use it when needed.

Will tonight bring more storms? Grant me trust that I can live through another.
